Gebrüder Cuno, Breslau.

Founded in 1829 by Optikus L. H. Seifert in Breslau, and passed on to the brothers Julius and Robert Cuno in 1851. Gebrüder Cuno was a maker/retailer of optical instruments, with a shop in the Albrechtstrasse 1 in the centre of Breslau. The 1852 advertisement (left margin) indicates that Cuno was a retailer of various instruments made by Greiner in Berlin. In 1879 a nephew of the Cuno brothers, Julius Neumann, took over the business [2]. Gebrüder Cuno was still in business in 1943 [4].

The purple lining in the lid of this drawing set is stamped Gebrüder Cuno, Breslau. Cuno is very likely the retailer of this set and not the maker. The legs on the nickel silver compasses in this set are octogonal. The marking on the case 'Gesetzlich geschütztes Muster' suggests a DRGM Gebrauchsmuster patent. The compass heads have a thumbscrew for adjusting the friction.
