In 1861 Christiaan Lambertus Cornelis Voskuil (*1832;1909) opens a stationary and artists' supplies shop in the Reguliersbreestraat Y562 in Amsterdam, later moving to larger premises in the Reguliersbreestraat 30-32. In 1876 partners Gerardus Antonius Endel (*1838;†1914) and Antonius Johannes Franciscus Hubertus Nuss (*1843;1919) acquire the business but as a stipulation continue under the name of C.L.C. Voskuil until 1896. The bookshop at Reguliersbreestraat 30-32 continues after the death of A.J. Nuss in 1919. Unclear when the shop went out of business, possibly during the 1940s.

In 1883 J. A. Schouten partnered with Bartholomeus Lambertus Voskuil (*1866;†1941) son of C.L.C. Voskuil, to succeed Stephanus van Helden (*1841;†1914), owner of a book and stationary shop in the Heiligeweg. The firm is then named Schouten & Co. located at Leidschestraat 75. When Voskuil reached the age of 21 in 1888, the company is renamed Schouten & Voskuil. Schouten & Voskuil probably went out of business in about 1936 as they are last listed in the 1936/37 Amsterdam directory [Collectie Stadsarchief Amsterdam].
